FAQs
Night aligners are simply clear aligners worn at night. They have to be worn for continuously 10 hours a night. Importantly, only minor straightening is appropriate for treatment as major movements with night aligner treatment is difficult to achieve. Treatment is slower than regular clear aligners treatment as they are worn less each day. A challenge many patients experience is remembering to place the aligners in at night as effective night aligner treatment requires consistently.
By only wearing aligners at night the inconvenience and discomfort of clear aligners can be minimised.
While standard clear aligner treatment is significantly more convenient than permanently attached bracers, some people still find clear aligners a hassle to remove while eating or are concerned about being noticed receiving treatment. Additionally, as straightening teeth can be uncomfortable, some are attracted to the option of sleeping through the worst of it.
However, it is not all positive. Treatment is only available for teeth that require minor straightening with only simple movements being consistently achievable, the treatment time can be more than double, and discomfort actually lasts longer as the teeth are moving for a longer period.
Night aligner treatment is only available for teeth that require minor straightening.
If you are interested in night aligner treatment and would like an initial assessment whether it is appropriate for you, send us some photos of your teeth and we can provide you guidance.
It is important that the required treatment prescription of 10 continuous hours of wear every night is consistently followed. If you are likely to forget to wear your aligners before bed, this treatment is probably not appropriate.
Night aligner treatment is only appropriate for simple cases that only require minor straightening.
Night aligners can straighten teeth with at least 10 hours of continuous wear each night but treatment can take more than double the time.
Some people find that night aligner treatment a necessary convenience when standard treatment does not meet their lifestyle and when it is not necessary to achieve results sooner.
Night aligner treatment will take longer than standard clear aligner treatment as night aligners are worn for less time each day. Usually it means your treatment will take 50% longer. While our orthodontist carefully designs your treatment to achieve your desired result, night aligner treatment requires the prescription of 10 continuous hours of wear every night to be followed consistently. If you are likely to forget to wear your aligners before bed, this treatment is probably not appropriate.

Unlike most other aligners, SmartSmileCo SuperClear aligners are scalloped. This means they are more comfortable, fit your mouth better and cause less irritation to your gums and cheeks. They are also near invisible while wearing.
Your teeth are designed to fit into each other perfectly. If you move one set of teeth you usually need to move the others as well. If you don’t, they will not align with each other and cause further problems.
SmartSmileCo aligners and retainers use our SuperClear material that are custom-made, lightweight, clear plastic. They are smooth, comfortable, BPA-free and phthalate-free, and are hardly visible. They are shaped to your gum line so won’t not irritate your cheeks and gums like traditional braces or other aligners.
SuperClear aligner are custom-made, lightweight, clear BPA-free plastic aligners that progressively move your teeth to give you your perfect smile.

Your SmartSmileCo treatment plan comes with the number of custom aligners that each move your teeth safely, little, by little. While it is a low risk, it is also best to avoid whitening treatment while pregnant or nursing.
A glass of orange juice has a similar effect on the teeth as Premium Whitening. As Premium Whitening takes place while you sleep it can be gentler than the concentrated gel used at a dentist’s office, which needs to take place over a much shorter time.
Key ingredients:
Glycerin, Water, Urea Peroxide, Propylene Glycol, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Citrate, Menthol, Sodium Phytate, Carob Gum, Salicylic Acid, Sodium Silicate, Xylitol, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate.
Use for 3 to 14 consecutive nights until the desired whiteness is attained. Premium Whitening comes with 2 separate gel tubes. You may feel 1 is enough and keep the second for later.
Depending on your enamel quality and lifestyle habits you may or may not need an annual top up. This professional product doesn’t require ongoing use, it gives longer lasting results than non-premium products.
Premium Whitening treatment can start at any time during or after your treatment. However, if your teeth are crowded and covering each other, it may be best to wait until all the surfaces can be reached by the whitening gel to achieve a more uniform result.
Store the Premium Whitening in the fridge until you’re ready to use it. If stored appropriately can be kept for at least 1 year.
Only those who are undergoing treatment with clear aligners or have retainers should use Premium Whitening.
A simple 3-step whitening process:
STEP 1 Brush your teeth and apply desensitizing solution to your teeth.
STEP 2 Apply a small amount of the whitening gel in your aligners.
STEP 3 Place aligners in the mouth as normal, and whiten your teeth while you sleep.
While it is a low risk, it is also best to avoid teeth whitening treatment while pregnant or nursing.
SmartFoam 3-in-1 is designed for sensitive teeth. It is gentle and effective but, as always, use as instructed.
SmartSmileCo suggests SmartFoam 3-in-1 is used 2 times a day during treatment, morning and night. For retainers, use SmartFoam 3-in-1 every night. Don’t use more than 4 times per day.
SmartFoam 3-in-1 safely and gently whitens your teeth, freshens your breath and cleans your aligners. One bottle lasts approximately 30 days.
While it is a low risk, it is also best to avoid all whitening treatment while pregnant or nursing.
The Desensitising Pen plugs the orifices of dentinal tubules during whitening.
The Smart Desensitising Pen is an optional treatment for customers for those with extra-sensitive teeth.
If you have sensitive teeth use the pen the same as the whitening gel 15 minutes before starting the session, rinse and proceed with whitening. It can also be used after the whitening session, then you don’t have to rinse it out.
We recommend its use at night so it’s not countered with fluids or food.

Some people experience sensitivity when whitening their teeth, this is normal. If your teeth do become sensitive, you may reduce how regularly you whiten or reduce the treatment duration. Sensitivity should disappear completely within 1-3 days after completing the treatment.
If you spread whitening gel on your gum irritation can also occur. This will disappear shortly after treatment. Vitamin E oil on the affected area may help.
For those who do suffer from extra teeth sensitivity, a Desensitising Pen is available for use.
Only enamel will be whitened, not crowns, caps, fillings or veneers. If there are stains they will come off but the original colour of the filling, cap, veneer or crown will not be change.
While it is a low risk, it is also best to avoid whitening treatment while pregnant or nursing.

It depends on your enamel quality and lifestyle habits. Some teeth whitening products can show dramatic results in just a few days, while others can take a couple of months. The majority of people will be able to whiten their teeth within 1-2 weeks.
You can start using the Smart Whitening Pen at any time during or after your treatment. However, if your teeth are crowded and covering each other, it may be best to wait until all the surfaces can be reached by the whitening gel to achieve a more uniform result.
When stored in a cool dry location the shelf life is generally 12-24 months.
Those who want whiter teeth or want to prevent stains from settling should use the Smart Whitening Pen.
People under the age of 18, who are pregnant, have health problems, periodontal disease or gums that are in poor condition, overly sensitive teeth, wear braces, had recent oral surgery, decayed teeth, have roots exposed, have colitis, have jaw problems, or are allergic to items inside the gel should not use this product.
It remains the user’s responsibility to ensure they are not allergic to any of the ingredients before using.
